I did not want an MRI, being claustrophobic, and aware that head wounds bleed, but MRIs are for heavy blows to the head, which I had not received. I knew it would entail sitting in the emergency room for hours past my normal work hours, and even getting paid extra did not make that palatable as I had a young child at home and didn’t need to waste my time in that way.

The fact that she was wrong and no one would stand up for me, and being forced to do things that infringed on my liberty grated on me so much that I requested a transfer, and got out of the technical side of things.

It really irritated me, because I enjoyed my liberty while repairing equipment, but to have some random Karen pushing me around with their ignorance was a dealbreaker. A half dozen years later I would start my own business where no one could push me around, and I was much happier.

After working for a few hours, I stood up and nicked my scalp on a sharp corner of a piece of sheet metal, and began to bleed like a stuck pig. Getting some paper towels to stop the blood, a black woman in the office demanded I go get an MRI. I didn’t know her, and she wasn’t even my boss, but she insisted I be taken to the hospital for an MRI, and said I wouldn’t be allowed back to work without proof that I had gotten one.
